Today we continue our “GROW memories tour” with Jean, former trainer in Suceava, who has a lot of good feelings following this program.

GROW is awesome, this pretty much sums up everything.

These six weeks of experience have been great for me. From the 5TC conference I have made so many friends from all over the world and learnt so much stuff, which I am sure will come in handy in the future. I thought that’s the best part of GROW, but I was wrong. Spending five weeks with the teenagers, teaching them skills while learning about Romanian culture from them was such a beautiful experience!

The teenagers were great, they were very eager to learn and very participative in sessions. Of course, this was not the situation during the first few workshops, but I could really see the change in their attitude as we progressed through the 10 sessions. I am really glad that I had this small impact on them.

In these five weeks I fall in love with all of them as they allowed me to experience love, care, and, most importantly, friendship. The most beautiful moment was when I cried during the closing ceremony because I didn’t want to leave them and they were the ones who told me not to cry because we will keep in touch and the past five weeks were great for them. “You should be happy and proud of yourself instead of crying. Come on, Jean, be strong!” This shows me that I have, in fact, made a difference in their life and it is a positive one.

From this experience I have learned to speak comfortably in front of others, to smile more, to experience life fully, and to understand that being sincere is the easiest way to connect with others. I am really glad to have come here to Romania because I had not only visit a beautiful country, but I also made a lot of friends here. To me, Romania is no longer just a country of Dracula and dragons (from Harry Potter) but it is like a second home to me. ”Va iubesc” to everyone I met during this project! You guys gave me an experience of a lifetime and I will never forget this!
